Women's Hockey Cruises Past NEC With 7-0 Win

Katie Leffler led the Beacons with a goal and two assists

HENNIKER, N.H. – Seven different players each recorded a goal as women's hockey cruised to their largest win of the 2021-22 season following a 7-0 New England Hockey Conference victory over New England College Friday evening at Lee Clement Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beacons quickly found themselves in control of Friday's contest as they scored three straight power play goals through the first eight minutes. Katie Wilbert (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Margeaux Butters (Snohomish, Wash.) and Jane Ann Drill (Madison, Wis.) each found the back of the net to give the Beacons the early 3-0 lead.

They then added two more goals in the second period, with Katie Leffler (Key Largo, Fla.) and Corin Trejchel (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scoring in the span of four minutes to blow the contest wide open.

The final stanza saw another back-to-back goals by UMB in the span of a minute with Ana Gustafson (Clarkston, Mich.) and Hannah MacDougall (South Dartmouth, Mass.) closing out the one-sided contest.

Between the pipes Victoria Kennedy (Winthrop, Mass.) registered her sixth win of the season after making just three stops in the third period. Romy Thibeault (Dallas, Texas) closed out the final two periods and posted 11 saves to help earn the combined shutout.

  • With her goal and two assists, Leffler now sits with 51 career points as a Beacon; She is now tied for 12th all-time in program history
  • All-time UMass Boston is now 23-9-2 against NEC and have won 16-straight over the Pilgrims
