HOW IT HAPPENED
Daly's game-winning goal came off the opening face-off of the overtime period. Rylee Glennon won the draw and pushed the puck back to her teammate. Daly then brought the puck up the wing and went directly to goal. She beat
Victoria Kennedy (Winthrop, Mass.) to the near side sealing the very quick decision.
Despite the loss, Kennedy was brilliant between the pipes as she matched her career high with 46 stops.
Also having a career day was
Rachael Burum (Marshfield, Mass.), who recorded her first collegiate goal, and first multi-point and goal game as a Beacon. Burum, tallied her first score in the final 1:18 of the opening period when she knocked in a rebound.
Cailey Kozich (Wexford, Pa.) took the initial shot from the point, which was stopped by Anna Kruesel. With the puck loose in the crease, Burum tapped it in to give the Beacons a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Addie Budington (Winnetka, Ill.) also got the assist on the play as she sent the long pass to Kozich at the red line.
Amherst would respond with a pair of goals around the midway point of the second period to take their first lead of the night.
The Beacons defense led by Kennedy held the Mammoths to just the two scores as the two teams headed into the second intermission.
The final stanza of regulation was a back-and-forth affair with both teams having solid chances. Burum's second goal was a great unassisted play. The senior stole the puck at the Beacons blue line and brought it up the ice. She beat Kruesel with a backhand to even the second at 2-2.
