Lacrosse Rolls Past Plymouth State To LEC Regular Season Title

Beacons win their first-ever LEC Regular Season crown with 21-7 win over Panthers

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – With another dominant performance the men's lacrosse team made history Tuesday afternoon, as they secured the program's first-ever Little East Conference Regular Season championship following a 21-7 victory over Plymouth State University at Currier Field.

THE BASICS

UMass Boston 21, Plymouth State University 7

UMass Boston (6-0, 5-0 Little East Conference)
Plymouth State University (2-3, 1-2 Little East Conference)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Due to Keene State College being on a COVID pause, the Beacons earn a share of the regular season title, as their 2021 LEC schedule comes to a close.  Despite Friday's game being canceled, the Beacon will officially close out the regular season this Saturday at 4 p.m.  An opponent will be announced tomorrow evening, with the game set to be played at James Cotter Field.

UMass Boston will now host the semi-final round of the LEC Tournament next Thursday at 7 p.m.  The tournament field will be announced on Friday on littleeast.com.

The 2021 edition of Beacons lacrosse is just the second team in program history to post a perfect record in conference play.  The 1997 squad finished the season with a 5-0 record, when UMass Boston was a member of the Pilgrim League.  They are the first team in program history to go undefeated since joining the Little East Conference in 2001.

Gavin Admirand (Marshfield, Mass.) and Conor Lenfest (Waltham, Mass.) were the driving force behind the Beacons one-sided victory.  The duo combined for 18 points, with Admirand leading the squad with seven goals.  Lenfest tallied five goals and also had a game-high four assists.

Darragh Fahey (Walpole, Mass.) rounded out the Beacons "Big-3" with four goals and two assists to cap-off another solid regular season.

Jack Dobrzynski (West Greenwich, R.I.) continued his unbelievable senior campaign, with another dominant performance.  The USILA Division 3 Team of the Week member, was nearly perfect on the "X" as he went 27-for-29.  Last week Dobrzynski matched the NCAA Division I, II, and III record for face-off wins with 36.  The senior also grabbed 22 ground balls.

Christian Meinhold (Boxborough, Mass.), who earned his first career start and win on Saturday against Mass. Maritime Academy, notched his second straight win between the pipes.  The reigning LEC Rookie and Goalie of the Week made 16 saves to anchor the Beacons defense.

The first quarter was a tight one, with the Beacons finding the back of the cage twice, while holding the Panthers to just one goal.  UMB gained some breathing room in the second as they outscored the Panthers 5-1 to take a 7-2 lead into the break.  Admirand would net four of the Beacons seven first half goals, which included three in the second stanza.

After the break the Beacons attack continued their barrage scoring six times, with five of the goals coming from the "Big 3".  The final frame was all UMass Boston as they continued to pummel the Panthers defense.  They would unload eight more goals to clinch the win and the regular season title.
