Lacrosse Powers Past Southern Maine For First Win

Gavin Admirand led the Beacons with 8 goals and 10 points

BOSTON, Mass. – Led by Gavin Admirand's (Marshfield, Mass.) eight goals, lacrosse picked-up where they left off in 2020 as they grinded out a 25-15 Little East Conference win over the University of Southern Maine Tuesday evening at James Cotter Field, in the Beacons first game of 2021 season.

THE BASICS

UMass Boston 25, U. of Southern Maine 15

UMass Boston (1-0, 1-0 Little East Conference)
U. of Southern Maine (1-4, 0-2 Little East Conference)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Admirand's eight goal performance marked a career-high for the junior attackman.  He also added a pair of assists for a 10 point day, which was a career best as well.

The two conference rivals exchanged goals in the early moments of the contest, which was the Beacons first since March 7, 2020.  The Beacons would use a quick 4-0 run to jump out to a 5-2 lead around the midway point of the first frame.
Southern Maine would keep the score close as the two teams headed into the first break with UMB leading 8-6.

The second quarter, saw the Beacons gain some breathing room, as they pushed their lead to seven (15-8) with just over a minute to play on an Admirand unassisted tally.

The final frames saw UMB use their large roster to their advantage as they began to wear down a smaller Huskies squad.  The Beacons would surrender just one goal in the third, while erupting for seven of-their-own to make it 22-9.

That offensive eruption was crucial, as the Huskies attack erupted for one final surge, as they scored the games' final five goals to make it a 10-goal decision in favor of the Beacons (25-15).

Face-off man Jack Dobrzynski (West Greenwich, R.I.) was impressive in his 2021 debut finishing with 27 wins on the "X" while also leading the Beacons with 18 groundballs.  Conor Lenfest (Waltham, Mass.) notched a six-point day (3g, 3a), while also posted three groundballs and three caused turnovers.

Defensively, the Beacons forced 12 USM turnovers, with seven of the Beacons starting nine each picking-up CT.

Donovan Prozinski (Ashland, Mass.) led the Beacons bench with three goals and two assists.

Between the pipes Trevor Koppy (Attleboro, Mass.) was solid in his 2021 win posting 13 stops.  Charlie Cook (Bedford, Mass.) finished out the contest with six stops over the final 15 minutes.
