Women’s Basketball Rolls Past WestConn For First Conference Win

Four Beacons finished in double-figures in the 70-44 LEC win






BOSTON, Mass. – A total team effort, highlighted by a double-double from Jasharee Greene (Boston, Mass.) earned women's basketball their first Little East Conference win of the season as they defeated WestConn by the final of 70-44 Tuesday afternoon in the Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Greene's double-double consisted of 14 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. She was one of four Beacons to finish in double-figures in the huge conference win. Meg Dixon (Hanover, Mass.) continued her strong play as she dropped in a game-high 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting, which included seven 3-pointers. 

Keriann Farina (Arlington, Mass.) and Sunny Green (Brewester, Mass.) combined for 24 points respectively. The rest of the Beacons squad would represent the final nine points on the scoreboard.

Defensively the Beacons held WestConn to just 29.8% shooting from the floor and 18.2% from distance. Once the Beacons were able to start firing on all cylinders, WestConn could not stop the Beacons "Big-4".

As a team, UMB shot over 45% from the field and over 41% from behind the arc.

Katelyn Fanning was the lone player to finish in double-digits for WestConn as she dropped in 13 points, while also grabbing 11 rebounds.

  • Tuesday's win marked the first Little East Conference win for first year head coach Heather Jacobs
  • The Beacons held a 41-30 advantage on the glass and combined for four blocked shots
  • Kaylee Haynes (Bridgewater, Mass.) recorded a career-high nine assists in the victory. 
  • UMB finished 10-for-15 from the field and 4-for-7 from distance in the third quarter which sparked their huge offensive surge in the second half
  • All-time the Beacons are now 20-41 against WestConn
  • The Beacons have now won eight-straight and nine of their last 10 meetings
  • UMass Boston has not lost at home to WestConn since December 5, 2015

The Beacons will travel to Rhode Island College on December 18 for a 1 p.m. conference game.
