HOW IT HAPPENED

Ten different Beacons finished with at least three points as UMass Boston picked up their third-straight victory.

Stephen DiGregorio (Marlborough, Mass.) paced the Beacons with a career-best 15 points in the win. The sophomore guard went 6-10 from the field and tacked on four rebounds, four assists and one steal.

Senior Charles Mitchell (Boston, Mass.) added 14 points, a game-high six assists, four steals and four rebounds in the win.

Malik Lorquet (Sharon, Mass.) just missed out on a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds, while Tommy Burris (Dalton, Mass.) and Malik Brooms (Roxbury, Mass.) chipped in eight and seven points.

Colby-Sawyer's Zach Caraballo tied for the game-high with 15 points on 6-9 shooting. Omar Boone was the only other Charger in double-figures, as he recorded 11 points in Colby-Sawyer's 2021-22 home opener.

Burris opened the game by draining a pair of 3-pointers in the opening 90 seconds to give the Beacons the lead for good (6-2). Colby-Sawyer would cut the deficit to 10-9 with 14:03 to play in the half, but UMass Boston would reply with a Lorquet lay-in and five-straight points from Brooms to make it 17-9 midway through the half.

The Beacons would extend their lead to 41-24 at the break thanks to a 10-2 run to end the half. Lorquet opened the flurry with a lay-up and a 3-point play, before DiGregorio drained a deep 3-pointer and Charlie Mitchell (Boston, Mass.) hit a buzzer-beating jumper.

UMass Boston would use one final run to put the hosts completely at bay. With the Beacons lead sitting comfortably at 52-34 with 12:55 to play, UMass Boston used a 12-2 run to grab a 64-36 advantage (8:16 to play). The Beacons began and finished the flurry with 3-pointers from Bobby Joy (Harwich, Mass.) and Emanuel Zayas (Hollywood, Fla.).
