HOW IT HAPPENED
Cozich's game-winning, the first of the season, came when she forced a William Smith turnover at the Heron's blue line. She then beat two defensemen and knocked the crucial tally shorthanded to give the Beacons a crucial three points in the conference standings.
Defensively, the Beacons played their best game of the year, as they neutralized multiple chances by the Heron's offense and power-play units.
As a team, UMB posted a season-high 17 blocked shots, with
Kelsey Ryan (Burlington, Mass.) leading the defensive effort with five stops. Ryan, also helped out in the offensive end, as she netted the game's first goal in the sixth minute of the first period.
Jane Ann Drill (Madison, Wis.) assisted on the first goal, which lasted until the 16 minute mark, when the Herons scored the equalizer. Brit Foster slipped puck past
Victoria Kennedy (Winthrop, Mass.), after taking it off her teammates stick.
Despite being outshot in all three periods, the Beacons had some of the better changes with multiple shots ringing off posts and Annie Hauser's face mask.
