Beacons Roll Past Brandeis For Non-Conference Win

Beacons use total team effort to earn 3-0 victory

WALTHAM, Mass. – A total team effort lifted volleyball to a 3-0 non-conference win over Brandeis University Tuesday evening at Red Auerbach Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The two teams went point-for-point in the opening stanza, with the Beacons earning the tight victory thanks to a kills by Emilia Czapiewska (Saint Paul, Minn.) and Marcelle Tiscareno (El Paso, Texas). Czapiewska made it 26-25 in favor of the Beacons, with Tiscareno closing out the set on a thunderous kill to earn the 27-25 win.

UMB rolled in the second set on their way to a 25-19 victory. In the third set, the Beacons had to rally around the midway point. Trailing by as many as five points, the Beacons rallied and sealed the win with a quick 4-1 run to earn the 25-22 decision.

Czapiewska, Tiscareno and Aleks Qose (Athens, Greece) each recorded 10 or more kills in the win, with the Minnesota native leading the trio with 13 put downs. Czapiewska also posted a .333 hitting percentage, while Taryn Broughal (Branford, Conn.) led all hitters with a .500 clip as she ended the night with eight kills.

Carsen Komminsk (Worthington, Ohio) had her most consistent match of the season, tallying 38 assists. The setter, who is quickly moving into a tie for second in program history in assists, also had two of the team's eight aces.

Ally Dean led the defense with 14 digs, while at the net Broughal posted a team-high three block assists.
