HOW IT HAPPENED
Flagg stopped the final 24 shots she faced and the Beacons scored a pair of goals in the second period, to earn their biggest win of the season.
The senior netminder just missed tying her season-high and career high-saves as a Beacon (46). She stopped all 15 shots she saw in the first period, 11 more in the second and 19 in the third period.
Katie Leffler (Key Largo, Fla.) tied the game with a penalty-shot goal. After being dragged down on a breakaway, the junior forward skated in on Nina Prunster and slid a shot just inside the far post.
Sophomore Elie Fallieras (Colombus, Ohio) scored the game-winning goal with 13 seconds left in the second period.
McKinley Karpa scored the lone goal for the visiting Mules, who saw their eight-game unbeaten streak come to an end.
Prunster made 23 saves on 25 shots to fall to 4-1 on the campaign.
After a scoreless first period, Colby took a 1-0 lead on the power-play at 7:38. Tess Dupre skated into the zone along the far side and sent a centering feed that Karpa redirected over Flagg's shoulder.
UMass Boston responded less than 30 seconds later. Leffler forced a turnover just outside her own blue line and skated past a defenseman, who dragged her down just as she was about to get a shot off. The referee immediately called for a penalty shot and Leffler calmly beat Prunster inside the far post at 8:04.
The Beacons took the lead with 13 seconds left in the period. Fallieras forced a turnover along the far boards and her centering feed was redirected to Cailey Kozich (Wexford, Pa.). Kozich's shot was stopped by Prunster, but Fallieras poked home the rebound for a 2-1 lead at 19:47.
Colby outshot the Beacons 19-6 in the third period, but couldn't find a way to beat Flagg and UMass Boston's defense.
