HOW IT HAPPENED
After taking a 2-1 lead through the first two periods, the Beacons registered three straight goals over a nine-minute span in the third to secure the non-conference victory.
The Beacons got on the scoreboard in the opening period as Elie Fallieras (Columbus, Ohio) broke the scoreless draw in the first five minutes. Nichols College would tie the score at 1-1 six minutes later on a power-play goal from McKenna Gernander.
The two rivals would remain tied until early in the second period when Kelsey Ryan (Burlington, Mass.) registered an unassisted goal just three minutes in.
UMass Boston would head into the second intermission with the slim one goal lead, as Flagg made 14 saves.
The final stanza saw the Beacons unload three straight goals, starting with Ryan netting her second of the night. From there it was Mia Sacco (Plymouth, Mass.) and Erica Lunn (Kingston, Mass.) each finding the back of the net to make it 5-1. Nichols got their second and final goal of the contest in the final three minutes of regulation, but their comeback effort was too-little-too-late.
