HOW IT HAPPENED

Flagg was once again impressive as she surpassed her previous career-best which she set on Tuesday in the Beacons 2-1 win over the 10-ranked Mules of Colby College.  The Beacons defensive effort was impressive from the opening puck drop, as they did everything in their power to limit one of the top Division III programs in the history of women's hockey.

The Beacons came within eight seconds of keeping the score even at 0-0, but with a goal from Anna Zumwinkle, the Panthers went into the first intermission leading 1-0.

In the second period, the Beacons would once again battle the Panthers, with Middlebury scoring their second and last goal at with just over seven minutes left in the frame.  Through the first two periods, the Panthers held a 31-7 advantage in total shots on goal.

Despite the two-goal deficit the Beacons emerged as the aggressors in the third period, as they looked to get on the board.  UMB had their best chances over the final 20 minutes, with Middlebury holding a slight 10-7 advantage.

The Beacons penalty kill held the Panthers scoreless on their three opportunities.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • All-time Middlebury leads the series with the Beacons 8-0 and have not allowed a UMB goal in their last four meetings
  • UMass Boston held Middlebury to just the two goals for the first-time ever in the series history between the two rivals
  • Flagg has now recorded 40 or more saves four times this season all of which have come against members of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
  • Jane Ann Drill (Madison, Wis.) led all Beacons players with five blocked shots
