HOW IT HAPPENED
After 41 stops by Sydney Helmbrecht, it took a perfectly place one-timer by Beauregard to give the Beacons the crucial two point victory in conference play. With the win the Beacons maintain their hold on third place in the conference standings with only two weeks remaining in the season.
Freshman Julia Nolan (Duxbury, Mass.) assisted on the game-winning play, when she laid off a perfect pass for Beauregard right in front of the Beacons bench. The Michigan native rifled the puck on goal and beat Helmbrecht top corner.
However the story of Saturday's contest belonged to the goaltenders as Helmbrecht and Rachel Myette (Duxbury, Mass.) played some of their best hockey of the season. Myette made 29 saves to secure her second shutout of the year. Myette also made a couple of huge saves late in the third period, that would have all but secured a third straight win for the Nor'Easters.
The Beacons physical play carried over from yesterday's tough loss to Franklin Pierce University. After surviving an early rush by the Nor'Easters in the first period, the Beacons began to fire on all cylinders, and quickly took control of the momentum in Saturday's contest.
The Beacons recorded 13 shots on goal in the first two frames, before finishing regulation with 11 shots on goal. In the OT it was all Beacons as they outshot UNE 5-2.
