HOW IT HAPPENED
After a Curtis Arsenault 3-pointer tied the score at 76-76 with 10 seconds remaining in the second half the Beacons and Panthers would exchange baskets throughout the first overtime. In the second OT, Freeman, who was the Beacons go-to scorer throughout the two overtimes, got the Beacons on the board first to make it 85-83.
Just like the first OT, Plymouth State would respond immediately. However, a turnover by the Beacons would give the Panthers a two-point lead (87-85) with 3:51 left on the clock. After Jack Preston went 1-for-2 at the charity stripe, the Beacons found themselves down by three (88-85).
Freeman would once again cut the Panthers lead back to one, this time at the free throw line. The Panthers would fail to convert on their next possession, which gave the Beacons the chance they needed to regain the lead. Freeman would put UMB up 89-88 with 1:46 to play on another perfectly executed jump shot.
The Panthers would try to seal the win with just over a minute to play as Arsenault went for a long 3-pointer. The shot would not find it's mark, but would get tipped in by Mike Osgood giving PSU a slim 90-89 lead with just over a minute left.
That field goal would be the last for either team, as the Beacons would go on to score five straight points, all at the free throw line to secure the victory. Senior Iser Barnes (Boston, Mass.) would drain four of the Beacons final five points to cap-off a 14-point night.
On the night Freeman finished 10-for-21 from the field and 8-for-10 at the line, while Lee's double-double marked the first of his college career.
UMass Boston led the Panthers at the half 34-33, but were unable to put them away over the final 20 minutes despite shooting 52.0% from the field and 50.0% from 3-point range.
