HOW IT HAPPENED
Allen closed out the day as the only Beacon to finish in double-figures. The Louisiana native went 6-for-16 from the field, 1-for-4 from 3-point range, and 5-for-7 at the charity stripe. He also collected five boards, two assists, and one steal.
Off the bench Josh Ruffin (Rockland, Mass.) had his best day so far as he grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while also dropping in three points to go along with one block and one steal.
Uche Nwokeji led the contest with a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds. The forward was 7-for-11 from the floor, and 7-for-14 at the line. Curtis Aresenault also played a big part in the win, with his 13 points.
The biggest factor in the Panthers win over UMass was their ability to take advantage of the Beacons 20 turnovers. PSU combined for 29 points off of the turnovers, and also added an additional 20 points on second chance plays.
The first 17 plus minutes of the opening half was a back-and-forth battle between the two conference rivals. However the momentum completely shifted when Plymouth State went 15-2 run to close out the half.
After the intermission, UMass was never able to cut in the deficit as the Panthers clawed past the Beacons to earn the victory.
