HOW IT HAPPENED
DePippo's career day was capped-off by a combined 17 saves, including nine stops in the second, as she anchored the Beacons line-up.
UMass wasted little time getting on the board, as Jenny Currie (Chelmsford, Mass.) scored her sixth goal of the year at the 6:27 mark of the first period to end the scoreless draw. Seven minutes later, Lizzie Aveson (West Covina, Calif.) continued her hot streak as she drove home her fourth goal of the weekend at 13:33 to make a two score game. The Beacons completely dominated play throughout the first, and with just four seconds remaining in the opening period took a comfortable 3-0 lead thanks to Katie Jeter (Winthrop, Mass.). Jeter would score the first of two Beacons power-play goals off of a Kat Armstrong (Boulder, Colo.) pass just as time was about to expire.
After the break, the break the Purple Knights came to life as they produced a game-high nine shots in the period, all of which were stopped by DePippo. UMB would make it 4-0 at the 14:28 mark when Katie Barry (Abington, Mass.) scored her second tally of the year, off of an Armstrong assist, her second of the game, and third of the weekend.
Despite the resurgence of the Purple Knights, UMass Boston was still very much in control of the contest, as they went into the second intermission with all the momentum on their side.
The Beacons would all but seal the victory midway through the third, when Kristen Embrey (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) tapped in a power-play goal, off of a pass from Alexandra Karlis (Denver, Colo.). Karlis would find Embrey wide open on the far side, after Currie slid the puck into the middle of the zone.
