CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – With four of their starting five finishing in double-figures the Gators of Pine Manor College handed men's basketball an 81-70 non-conference loss Thursday afternoon at Bruneilli Court.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Led by Curtis Hyman's 19 points and 12 rebounds, the Gators notched their second consecutive win, and third in the last four games.  For the Beacons, sophomore guard Maurice Magras (Medford, Mass.) posted a combined 17 points to lead UMass Boston.

Quadry Allen (White Castle, La.) finished second on the team with 14 points, followed by Iser Barnes (Boston, Mass.), who came off the bench to drop in 10 points.  Allen, also led the Beacons on the glass with eight boards, and had two steals and two assists. 

From the opening tip, the host Gators controlled the momentum of Thursday's meeting as they jumped out to a double-figure lead by the 13:20 mark of the first half.  The Beacons tried to cut into the deficit, but Pine Manor managed to keep their distance to close out the victory. 

BY THE NUMBERS

• Thursday's contest was just the second meeting between the two program's and the Beacons first loss to the Gators
• On the night UMass shot 38.2% from the field, and held a +1 (39-38) advantage on the glass
• Elis Reid was second on the team for Pine Manor with his 13 points and 11 rebounds
