BOSTON, Mass. – With four different players finding the back of the net, women's ice hockey picked-up their biggest win of the season by far as they handed St. Anselm College their first loss of the year with a 4-2 victory Friday afternoon at the Beacons Ice Arena.

THE BASICS

UMass Boston (3-4-0, 3-2-0 New England Hockey Conference)
St. Anselm College (4-1-0, 4-1-0 New England Hockey Conference)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Junior Kristen Embrey (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) got the Beacons on the board early in the first period, as she notched her first goal of the season at the 14:36 mark.  Senior Kristina Bove (Medford, Mass.) earned her first-ever collegiate point on the play, while sophomore Maren Brown (Brainerd, Maine) earned her second assist.

Thirty-one seconds later, the Beacons pushed their lead to 2-0 on a goal from senior Jenny Currie (Chelmsford, Mass.).  Defenseman Kat Armstrong (Boulder, Colo.) assisted on the play to put the Beacons in control of the scoreboard early on.

Between the pipes Rachel Myette (Pembroke, Mass.) was more than solid in the first period, as she held the Hawks scoreless, as she made 10 stops.  After the first intermission, the Hawks got on the board with Sarah Geisinger scoring her first of two power-play goals at 7:13 in the period.  However Jane Morrisette (Pembroke, Mass.) would hammer home UMass Boston's third goal of the night to push their lead back to two.  The goal which was scored at the halfway point of the period, kept the Beacons in the driver seat as they continued to keep the Hawks off the board.

With the exception of the one goal against in the second Myette continued to make some huge stops including a pair of breakaways.  She would total 10 stops in the second frame.  The Beacons had plenty of chances to really blow the game open, but finished 0-for-5 on the power-play.

In the third, the speed and physicality of the game picked-up tremendously.  The Beacons managed to hold the Hawks back, with huge stops from their defense.  On the night UMass Boston totaled a season-high 25 blocked shots, with Samantha Fallon (Pembroke, Mass.) leading her blue line teammates with a career-high 10 stops.

It was not until the 2:57 mark that the Beacons sealed the victory, with senior captain Alexandra Karlis (Denver, Colo.) scoring her first goal of the season.  Katie Barry (Abington, Mass.) and Bove each assisted on the play to give UMass Boston their second win in the last three meetings with St. Anselm College.

Myette closed out the huge conference win with 12 saves in the third period, 32 in the contest, to earn her second win of the year.  For the Hawks they were without their leading goaltender Hannah Synnott, with the loss going to Logan Knip, her first of the year.

On the night, the Beacons finished 0-for-7 on the power-play, while the Hawks went 2-for-4.
