No. 14 Women's Hockey Earns 1-1 Draw At St. Anselm

Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H. – With a season-high 45 saves by senior netminder Moe Bradley (Swampscott, Mass.), 14th ranked women's ice hockey was able to hold-off the Hawks of Saint Anselm College to earn a 1-1 draw Friday afternoon at Sullivan Arena in an ECAC East match-up.

UMass now stands at 5-1-1 overall, 3-1-1 in the ECAC East conference.  The Hawks who trailed for most of the afternoon also stand at 5-1-1 on the year, and 3-1-1 in the conference.

Bradley's 45 stops marks her second best performance in a Beacons uniform.  Last season the senior registered 50 stops in the 1-1 draw with the University of St. Thomas (Minn.), which ranks in the top-5 best goaltending performances in school history.

The Swampscott native made 13 saves to start off the night, while in the second she held the Hawks scoreless with her 19 saves.  Despite an early goal from St. Anselm, which tied it at 1-1, Bradley made a combined 12 saves to keep the game even.

In the overtime, she was forced to make just one big save to keep the game knotted at one-goal a-piece.  As a team, the Beacons were solid defensively all afternoon registering a season-best 21 blocked shots.  They also managed a +5 rating in the conference draw.

Getting the Beacons on the scoreboard just five-and-a-half minutes into the contest was freshman Maren Brown (Brainerd, Minn.).  Her first collegiate goal gave the Beacons the early momentum, and nearly earned her team the victory for the second straight year.  KC McGinley (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Kayla Smith (Woburn, Mass.) were each credited with the assists.

Looking to repeat their efforts from 2013-14 campaign, when the Beacons earned a 1-0 victory over the Hawks, Bradley settled in immediately and completely shut down St. Anselm's offense.  Last year, the Beacons received an early power-play goal from Emily Howard (Terryville, Conn.) in the opening period.  That score held up the entire afternoon, thanks in part to a huge performance by Bradley, who made 43 stops to pick-up the shutout.

Despite being outshot 46-18, the Beacons did have their chances, especially in the overtime period.  Hawks goalie Hannah Synnott was forced to make three key saves in the golden goal frame to keep the score tied at one.

The Beacons finished the contest 0-for-4 on the power play, while the Hawks went 1-for-4.

UMass Boston returns to action tomorrow when they host the University of Southern Maine at 1 p.m.
