Boston women's basketball legend Antonia Macklin returns for her third season with the UMass Boston women's basketball coaching staff in 2018-19.

In her second year with the Beacons, Macklin helped UMass Boston put together their best season in program history. The Beacons finished 25-4 overall and won their first-ever Little East Conference Tournament Title and earned their first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.  

Macklin is one of the all-time great high school players in the city of Boston, and went on to play her collegiate basketball at the University of Iowa. In her four seasons at the English School of Boston, Macklin averaged 25 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists and recorded a program-record 1,616 points. She was named the Boston Player of the Year in 1990 and was named a two-time Parade Magainze's All-American in 1989 and 1990.

After graduating English, Macklin went on to play for four years under women's basketball legend Vivian Stringer at the University of Iowa. The Hawkeyes won the Big 10 Championship in three of her four seasons and went all the way to NCAA Final Four in 1993. 

Since concluding her playing career, she has dedicated the past 20 years towards working with girl's basketball players in the city of Boston. 

Since 2009, she has been the junior varsity coach and lead assistant varsity coach at John D O'Bryant, one of the most successful girl's basketball programs in the city of Boston. The Lady Tigers won the Boston City League in 2011 and 2013.

In addition to her high school role, Macklin has also worked as a volunteer girl's basketball coach at the John A. Shelburne Center and has spent time as a head coach in the Boston Neighborhood Basketball League (BNBL) at the 13 and 15 and under level and on the AAU circuit with the Lady Spartans. Macklin's teams won the BNBL Reebok Sportsmanship Award in 2013 and the Shelburne All-Girls Developmental Basketball League in 2016.
