BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 5, 2026) – UMass Boston fell to No. 11 Johns Hopkins 3-1 (23-25, 20-25, 26-24, 17-25) Saturday at the Newton H. White Center, dropping a hard-fought road match against one of the nation's top programs while finishing 2-1 on the young season. The Beacons out-hit the Blue Jays .262 to .222 for the match and dominated at the net, but Johns Hopkins' serving advantage proved decisive in a contest that featured 21 tie scores and 10 lead changes.
• Set 1 (23-25): The Beacons pushed Johns Hopkins to the limit in the opening frame, hitting .250 (15 kills on 36 attacks) in a set that featured multiple ties and lead changes. The Blue Jays edged ahead late and closed out the set 25-23, claiming the early momentum by the slimmest of margins.
• Set 2 (20-25): Johns Hopkins extended its lead behind a punishing serving performance and pulled away to take a 2-0 match lead. UMass Boston hit .348 in the set.
• Set 3 (26-24): With their backs against the wall, the Beacons delivered their best volleyball of the afternoon. UMass Boston hit .361 (16 kills on 36 attacks) in a set that swung back and forth through 10 tie scores and four lead changes. The Beacons won 26-24 to force a fourth set and keep the match alive.
• Set 4 (17-25): Johns Hopkins responded with its most dominant set of the match, posting 17 kills on 40 attacks to close out the Beacons 25-17.
• Paige Coulson (Marriottsville, Md.) led UMass Boston with 15 kills on 45 attacks, tying Johns Hopkins' Ivy Swafford for the match high. The senior outside hitter/right side shouldered the heaviest offensive load on the team, taking the most swings of any Beacon.
• Mya Perron (Beverly, Mass.) was UMass Boston's most efficient outside option, posting 10 kills on 25 attacks for a .320 hitting percentage — her best offensive output of the 2026 season — and adding six digs.
• Addie Blomgren (Riverside, Ill.) was a force at both ends, recording 8 kills on 15 attacks (.400 pct) with two service aces and five total blocks, including the only block solo recorded by either team in the match.
• Adele Accelus (Longmeadow, Mass.) was flawless on offense, going 5-for-10 with zero errors (.500 pct) and adding two block assists. Audrey Cofield (Ypsilanti, Mich.) ran the offense with 31 assists — nearly eight per set — and seven digs.
• Talita Cardoso (Everett, Mass.) delivered five block assists in just three sets of action, tying for the team lead in total blocks. Ashlee Wudi (Brookfield, Ill.) anchored the back row with a team-high 12 digs. As a unit, UMass Boston recorded 15 total blocks (1 solo, 14 assists), out-blocking Johns Hopkins' 10 block assists.
