BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 4, 2026) – UMass Boston's women's volleyball team swept William Paterson University 3-0 at a neutral-site tournament hosted by Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., taking the opening set in a hard-fought 27-25 battle before pulling away decisively to move to 2-0 on the young 2026 season.
• Set 1 (27-25): The Beacons and Pioneers traded blows in a tightly contested opener that went beyond regulation. UMass Boston held its composure down the stretch, converting on the extended set to claim a 27-25 victory and seize early momentum.
• Set 2 (25-16): UMass Boston turned the corner emphatically in the second frame, controlling the set from start to finish and outpacing William Paterson by nine points. The Beacons' blocking unit and aggressive serving kept the Pioneers consistently out of system.
• Set 3 (25-15): The Beacons closed out the sweep with their most dominant set of the afternoon, outscoring William Paterson 25-15 and finishing the match having outscored the Pioneers 50-31 across the final two sets.
• Paige Coulson (Marriottsville, Md.) was the match's premier offensive force, leading all players with 12 kills on 31 attempts (.290 hitting percentage) to go with five digs for 12 total points. The senior outside hitter/right side was the Beacons' primary weapon for the second straight match of 2026.
• Audrey Cofield (Ypsilanti, Mich.) ran the offense with precision, recording a double-double with 29 assists and 11 digs. The junior setter distributed to 29 of UMass Boston's 33 kills — an 88% assist rate — and added two block assists.
• Adele Accelus (Longmeadow, Mass.) led the match in total blocks with 3.5 (one solo, five assists), anchoring a UMass Boston net defense that out-blocked William Paterson 8.0 to 3.0 on the afternoon. Addie Blomgren (Riverside, Ill.) was equally impactful with five kills, 2.5 blocks, two service aces and five digs for 9.5 points.
• Mya Perron (Beverly, Mass.) contributed six kills on 23 attempts for six points as the team's second-highest volume attacker, while Noemie Eugene (North Attleboro, Mass.) was the match's most efficient attacker among players with multiple kills, posting three kills on just four swings for a .750 hitting percentage.
• Three Beacons each recorded two service aces: Blomgren, Nevaeh Yancey (Dorchester, Mass.), Kaitlyn Leberstien (Wilmington, Del.). Ashlee Wudi (Brookfield, Ill.) and Cofield each tallied 11 digs to anchor the back row, part of a 50-dig team effort that outpaced William Paterson's 44.
• The Beacons return to the court Saturday, Sept. 5 at 10:00 a.m. for their second match of the Johns Hopkins University tournament in Baltimore, Md. against hosts Johns Hopkins, currently ranked 11th in the nation on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) national poll.
