BOSTON, Mass. (Sept. 29, 2026) – Three second half goals led UMass Boston men's soccer to a 3-1 victory over the Keene State College Owls in Little East Conference action on Tuesday afternoon at the BC High JV Field.
The Beacons improve to 4-3-1 (1-0-1 LEC) on the season, while Keene State is now 1-6-2 (0-2-1).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Things were deadlocked at one apiece in the 65
th minute when
Ryan Doherty (Donegal, Ireland) gave UMass Boston the lead for good. Doherty's initial shot hit the crossbar and he then quickly pounced on the rebound for his first goal of the year.
In the first half, the Beacons saw a series of chances that were denied by Owls' goalie Tommaso Lorrai including shots from Doherty in the 10
th minute and
Gabriel Jordao (Bellingham, Mass.) in the 14
th minute. The two teams would continue to battle with each goalie making one save over the final 25 minutes of the half to keep things scoreless at the break.
Cam Ramos (Goiania, Brazil) opened the scoring less than two minutes into the second half as he took a feed from
Ryan Lima (Minas Gerais, Brazil). However, Keene State responded just 1:22 later with a tally from Luke Belisle that squared the match at one.
Doherty's afore-mentioned go-ahead goal gave the Beacons the lead who then continued to look for an insurance goal. The late marker came in the 86
th minute as
Idman Hodzic (Boznia and Herezgovina) delivered a cross that found
Rafael Gross (Minas Gerais, Brazil) for a perfectly timed header and a 3-1 advantage.
A strong defensive effort from UMass Boston's backline limited the Owls to just two total shots in the second half.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
Head coach
Jake Beverlin's team held a decisive 22-7 shot advantage led by six from Doherty and four apiece from Gross and Jordao.
JJ Devine (Halifax, Mass.) tallied two saves to earn the victory for the Beacons and Lorrai made nine for Keene State.
The match was a physical affair that featured a combined 22 fouls and five yellow cards.
