BOSTON, Mass. (Sept. 22, 2026) — The UMass Boston Beacons (2-4-2) fell 2-0 to Babson College on Tuesday evening at the James Cotter Field in the Mental Health/Morgan's Message Dedication Game, as goalkeeper Janiya Morales Matier (North Easton, MA/Oliver Ames High School) turned in a resilient nine-save performance to keep the Beacons competitive throughout.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Babson struck first in the 11th minute of the first half when Lillian McAughan found the net high right to put the visitors ahead. The Beacons responded with their best chance of the half at 42:41, when Alexis Williamson (Nassau, Bahamas) fired a shot high left that Babson goalkeeper Callahan Cottone turned away.
McAughan then set up Izzy Lee for the second goal at 58:44 of the second half, a low-left finish that doubled the advantage.
UMass Boston continued to push forward, with Kylie Marshall (Bolton, Mass.) coming off the bench to put a shot on goal in the 69th minute. Camryn Trick (Sammamish, Wash.) attempted a shot in the 72nd minute as the Beacons refused to relent.
BY THE BOX:
Morales Matier was tested early and often, facing 20 shots and 11 on goal from a Babson side that generated nine corner kicks to UMass Boston's four. Her nine saves matched her second-highest single-game total of the 2026 season and kept the margin from growing beyond two.
Williamson played 63 minutes and provided the Beacons' most dangerous first-half moment, while Marshall's second-half cameo and Trick's full 90 minutes at the back illustrated the team's determination to compete to the final whistle.
