HARTFORD, Conn. (Sept. 19, 2026) – The UMass Boston Beacons volleyball team dropped a pair of five-set heartbreakers to Bowdoin and Trinity (Conn.) in the Trinity Tri-Match on Saturday at Ray Oosting Gymnasium in Hartford.

UMass Boston now sits at 7-4 on the season, while Bowdoin is 7-3 and the host Bantams are 6-2.

Bowdoin 3, UMass Boston 2 (25-20, 25-23, 14-25, 12-25, 14-16)
Set One (25-20)
The two sides traded points for a majority of the first set and things were tied at 13 apiece before the Beacons ripped off five straight points to take a 17-13 advantage. From there, Bowdoin was unable to get any closer than two the rest of the way and Adele Accelus (Longmeadow, Mass.) delivered a kill to seal the 25-20 win.

Set Two (25-23)
Bowdoin established an early 10-5 lead before UMass Boston was able to battle back and led 18-15 following a six-point run later in the set. A Polar Bears' service ace tied things at 21 then consecutive kills by Accelus and Paige Coulson (Marriottsville, Md.) helped clinch the 25-23 victory for the Beacons.

Set Three (14-25)
Back and forth play was the theme for the early stages of the third set prior to four straight points from Bowdoin that opened up a 15-9 lead. The Beacons continued to fight, but were unable to get any closer than five the remainder of the set.

Set Four (12-25)
The Polar Bears won nine of the first 10 points in the set and were able to force the decisive fifth set with a 25-12 victory.

Set Five (14-16)
Things were deadlocked at 10 apiece in the fifth set prior to Bowdoin reclaiming the lead at 13-11 with three out of the next four points. From there, UMass Boston took the next three points for a 14-13 edge, but the Polar Bears then won the final three points to capture the match.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
Mya Perron (Beverly, Mass.) registered a season-high 16 kills for the Beacons, marking her highest total since she posted 18 at Eastern Connecticut State on Nov. 1, 2025. Perron added 13 digs for her second double-double of the season.

Accelus tallied 10 kills, while Coulson added nine in the match to go along with 20 digs.

Audrey Cofield (Ypsilanti, Mich.) recorded her fifth double-double of the 2026 campaign with 37 assists and 14 digs.

Elsewhere for UMass Boston, Ashlee Wudi (Brookfield, Ill.) posted a team-high 23 digs and added three assists and two service aces.  

Trinity (Conn.) 3, UMass Boston 2 (25-16, 19-25, 21-25, 25-21, 7-15)
Set One (25-16)
The match was tied at 10 apiece before the Beacons won five of the next six points to take a 15-11 lead. Trinity was unable to get any closer than four the rest of the set and UMass Boston took the early lead with a 25-16 victory.

Set Two (19-25)
Much like the first set, the two sides were deadlocked at 12 apiece following early runs by both teams. From there, the set was once again tied at 18 before the Bantams captured seven of the final eight points to even the match at one set apiece.

Set Three (21-25)
Both teams traded points for a majority of the third set and the score was even at 15 when Trinity recorded seven of the next eight points and took a 22-16 lead. The Bantams then closed out the set with a 25-21 victory.

Set Four (25-21)
Trailing 19-16, head coach Stacy Cheney's team fought back to even things at 21 apiece and kills by Coulson and Perron forced the fifth set with the 25-21 victory.

Set Five (7-15)
Trinity recorded the first nine points of the fifth set and held off a late comeback bid by the Beacons who got within five (11-6) before falling 15-7.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
Perron led all attackers for UMass Boston with 14 kills, while Coulson posted a double-double with 13 kills and 18 digs.

Cofield notched her second double-double of the day and sixth of the season with 34 assists and 11 digs.

Wudi recorded another strong performance with a season-high 29 digs and has now recorded 20-plus digs in three of her last four matches.

The Beacons will hit the road to battle No. 2 Colby College on Wednesday, Sept. 23 with first serve set for 7 p.m.
