Volleyball Battles No. 2 Colby in Non-Conference Match

WATERVILLE, Maine (Sept. 23, 2026) – The UMass Boston Beacons volleyball team battled in all three sets, but dropped a 3-0 decision to the No. 2 Colby College Mules in a non-conference match on Wednesday night at the Margaret M. Crook Center.

UMass Boston is now 7-5 on the season and Colby sits at 7-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One (22-25)
The two teams traded points in the early stages of the first set and things were even at 11 apiece before Colby captured the next three points to take the lead for good. From there, the Beacons would not go quietly and trimmed the deficit to one on multiple occasions, but were unable to get any closer.

Set Two (21-25)
Colby grabbed an early 11-4 lead prior to a relentless UMass Boston comeback capped off by a kill from Adele Accelus (Longmeadow, Mass.) that tied the set at 15. The Mules then regained the lead with the next two points and five of the next six en route to the 25-21 win.

Set Three (13-25)
In the third set, the Mules held a 12-3 advantage and were able to hold off a Beacons rally that cut the deficit to five at 13-8 before clinching the match with the 25-13 victory.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
Paige Coulson (Marriottsville, Md.) led all attackers for UMass Boston with eight kills, while Mya Perron (Beverly, Mass.) added six and Accelus tallied five. Coulson also registered three service aces and nine digs.

Audrey Cofield (Ypsilanti, Mich.) recorded a match-high 19 assists to go along with her eight digs and Ashlee Wudi (Brookfield, Ill.) notched three assists and 10 digs.

For Colby, Evelyn Kunde and Brady Moseley led the way with eight kills.

This marked the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
