PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Sept. 19, 2026) - UMass Boston men's soccer battled Rhode Island College to a 0-0 draw at Providence, R.I., as the Beacons outshot the Anchormen 13-7 and earned a road clean sheet to move to 3-2-1 (0-0-1) on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Beacons controlled the offensive tempo throughout, generating 13 shots and holding a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The first half opened with immediate action at both ends. JJ Devine (Halifax, Mass.), the Beacons' fifth-year goalkeeper, made a critical stop in the fourth minute, denying a low right shot from Rhode Island's Joseph Kelly to keep the match level. UMass Boston answered with pressure of its own, as Ryan Doherty (Donegal. Ire.) tested Ndoye in the 16th minute, one of three shots the senior would register on the afternoon. The first half ended goalless, with neither side able to break through despite the Beacons' sustained pressure.
UMass Boston came out of the break with renewed energy. First-year midfielder Raphael Alves (Framingham, Mass.) entered off the bench and immediately made his presence felt, firing a threatening low center shot in the 60th minute that Ndoye turned away.
First-year midfielder Gabriel Jordao (Bellingham, Mass.) also came off the bench and registered two shots in 25 minutes. Junior midfielder Eduardo Chirico (Minas Gerais, Bra.) played the full 90 minutes and added two shots with one on goal, while Ryan Lima (Minas Gerais, Bra.) logged 82 minutes and contributed a shot of his own as the Beacons kept Rhode Island's defense working throughout the second half.
The match grew physical in its final stages. Sophomore Victor Carneiro (Philadelphia, Penn.) received a yellow card in the 77th minute, with Rhode Island's Logan Santos picking up a caution of his own shortly after. The late tension underscored the gritty, contested nature of a match neither side was willing to concede.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
Devine was equal to every challenge Rhode Island produced, making three saves across 90 minutes and allowing just three shots on goal from the Anchormen's seven total attempts. Junior Parker Hamilton (Lexington, Mass.) and senior Ian Visnick (Beverly, Mass.) anchored the back line for the full 90 minutes, while fifth-year defender Jesus Guarcas (Providence, RI.) started the match before being substituted in the 21st minute. The collective defensive effort produced a road clean sheet — a resilient response from a group that had allowed goals in each of its previous two outings.
