BRIGHTON, Mass. (Sept. 16, 2026) – The UMass Boston Beacons women's tennis team dropped a close 4-3 decision to the Simmons University Sharks in a non-conference match on Wednesday at the Daly Field Complex in Brighton.
UMass Boston drops to 3-1 on the season, while Simmons now sits at 5-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Sharks won two of the three doubles matches to take the early lead despite the Beacons' duo of
Tatiana Malone (South Dennis, Mass.) and
Zainab Patel (Ahmedabad, India) notching a 6-1 victory in first doubles action.
Patel cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Simmons' Masha Shutts in No. 1 singles and
Delilah Castro (Horizon City, Texas) added a 7-6, 5-3 win over Ivy Cote in No. 4 singles play.
Aleyna Yilidirim (New York, N.Y.) rounded out the winners for UMass Boston as she notched a 6-3, 6-2 victory in fifth singles.
Simmons clinched the match with a straight set win at No. 6 singles.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
The two teams have split their past four meetings dating back to the 2024-25 season.

UMass Boston will host Plymouth State in a Little East Conference match on Saturday, Sept. 19 with first serve at the Milton Academy Tennis Courts set for 3:30 p.m.
