MEDFORD, Mass. (Sept. 15, 2026) – The UMass Boston Beacons men's soccer team battled for all 90 minutes, but two early goals for No. 18 Tufts proved costly in a 3-0 setback to the Jumbos on Tuesday evening at Bello Field.
UMass Boston now sits at 3-2 on the season, while Tufts is 3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Jumbos struck for two goals just 0:32 apart in the fourth and fifth minutes as Ben Pensky and Henry Brown each found the back of the net. Despite the early deficit, the Beacons continued to fight and a 17
th minute shot from
Ryan Doherty (Donegal, Ire.) was cleared off the goal line by a defender to keep things at 2-0 for the time being.
Doherty added two more shots over the remainder of the first half and
Gabriel Jordao (Bellingham, Mass.) saw a shot turned away in the 43
rd minute with Tufts holding the afore-mentioned 2-0 lead at the break.
Brown added his second goal of the game for the Jumbos in the 59
th minute. The Beacons then saw a handful of opportunities over the final 30 plus minutes, but were unable to breakthrough.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
Tufts held a 13-8 edge in shots with Doherty pacing the Beacons with three on the night including two on frame. Jordao once again logged a strong effort off the bench with two shots in 41 minutes of action.
JJ Devine (Halifax, Mass.) registered five saves for UMass Boston, while Nikola Antic made two saves in 74:16 of action for the Jumbos.
Head coach
Jake Beverlin's team put forth a strong effort against a Tufts team that captured the 2025 NCAA Division III National Championship.
