NEWTON, Mass. (Sept. 14, 2026) – The UMass Boston field hockey team dropped an 8-0 decision to the New England College Pilgrims in the Beacons' first-ever home game on Monday afternoon at the Charles River Campus of UMass Amherst.
On the season, the Beacons now sit at 0-4 and New England College is 2-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Pilgrims were able to take control of the game with four goals in the first quarter as tallies from Kacey McClay and Mary Kelley 2:28 apart opened the scoring.
Early in the second quarter, the visitors continued to threaten before the Beacons'
Alexis Hudson (Lancaster, N.Y.) tallied a defensive save as she cleared a shot off the goal line.
New England College added two more goals later in the second quarter to take a 6-0 advantage into halftime.
UMass Boston recorded a pair of penalty corner opportunities in the third period and a shot from
Ava Duffy (Boston, Mass.) just under four minutes in went just wide of the cage. From there, the Pilgrims added two more goals in the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Beacons had scoring chances with shots from
Campbell Lambert (Rumford, R.I.) and
Delaney Williams (Duxbury, Mass.) that were turned away by Pilgrims' goalie Amy Philbin.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
Goalies
Elizabeth Crowley (Medfield, Mass.) and
Jenna Smolinski (Buffalo, N.Y.) played 30 minutes apiece in the contest for the Beacons with each goalie making six saves apiece.
For New England College, Annie Raduazzo and Amy Philbin each saw 30 minutes of action with Philbin recording two saves.
Monday marked the first of seven home games for UMass Boston in their inaugural field hockey season.
