DANBURY, CONN. (Sept. 12, 2026) – The UMass Boston Beacons women's tennis team opened Little East Conference play in style with a 7-0 sweep of the WestConn Wolves on Saturday at the Westside Tennis Courts in Danbury.

UMass Boston is now 2-0 overall (1-0 LEC) on the young season, while WestConn falls to 0-3 (0-1 LEC).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The duo of Zainab Patel (Ahmedabad, India) and Tatiana Malone (South Dennis, Mass.) rolled to a 6-1 victory in No. 1 doubles play, while Delilah Castro (Horizon City, Texas)/Sofia DaSilva Askew (Springfield, Mass.) notched a 6-0 win in No. 2 doubles. Kaya-Lilliana Rutkowski (Berlin, Conn.) /Annabelle Douyon (Wimauma, Fla.)  followed suit with a 6-1 win in No. 3 doubles to clinch the point for the Beacons.

Patel posted a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory in first singles and Malone notched a 6-1, 6-4 win of her own in second singles play. In No. 3 singles, Castro defeated WestConn's Kate Robinson 6-2, 6-1.

In other singles play, Kathy Roqueza (Holyoke, Mass.) rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 spot and Aleyna Yilidirim (New York, N.Y.) added a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles. Douyon capped things off with a 6-1, 6-3 win over the Wolves' Sharee Priar.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
The Beacons have now won 15 straight meetings against WestConn dating back to the 2011-12 season.
