MILTON, Mass. (Oct. 20, 2026) – The No. 3 seed UMass Boston Beacons women's tennis team (10-3) notched a 4-0 victory over the No. 6 seed Vermont State Castleton Spartans (6-8) in Little East Conference quarterfinal action on Tuesday at the Trent J. Scott Tennis Courts on the campus of Curry College.
With the victory, the Beacons advance to Thursday's semifinal match at Bridgewater State.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
UMass Boston clinched the doubles point with a 6-0 victory from
Zainab Patel (Ahmedabad, India)/
Tatiana Malone (South Dennis, Mass.) at the No. 1 spot and a 6-1 win by
Mila Pipkin (Bradenton, Fla.)/
Sofia DaSilva Askew (Springfield, Mass.) at the No. 2 match.
Patel added a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Brooke Hecker in first singles and DaSilva Askew defeated the Spartans' Olivia Rutkowski by a 6-0, 6-1 score in second singles.
Malone added a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Andrea Rodriguez at No. 3 singles.
The other three singles matches remained unfinished when the Beacons clinched the match.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
Tuesday's victory marks the ninth straight win over the Spartans dating back to Oct. 10, 2018.
This marks the seventh consecutive year that UMass Boston has advanced to the LEC semifinals.
UP NEXT:
The Beacons will battle No. 2 seed Bridgewater State on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 2:30 p.m. in semifinal action.
