FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (Sept. 11, 2026) – The UMass Boston Beacons women's tennis team opened the 2026-27 campaign with a 5-2 victory over the Farmingdale State Rams in a non-conference match on Friday afternoon.
The Rams fall to 1-3 on the season with the defeat.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Farmingdale State captured the doubles point with victories of 6-3, 6-4 and 6-3 across the three matches.
Zainab Patel (Ahmedabad, India) won the first five points of her match before her opponent retired at No. 1 singles for the Beacons, while
Sofia DaSilva Askew (Springfield, Mass.) notched a 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) win over the Rams' Kaelin Burnett at second singles.
Elsewhere for UMass Boston,
Delilah Castro (Horizon, Texas) posted a 6-3, 7-6 (7-1 win) in No. 4 singles play and
Kathy Roqueza (Holyoke, Mass.) rallied for a 0-6, 6-3, 6-3 win against Emma Johannsen at No. 5 singles. In No. 6 singles action,
Aleyna Yilidirim (New York, N.Y.) rounded out the winners for the Beacons with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
Friday marked the sixth time in seven seasons that UMass Boston has opened up with a victory. It was also the first match between the Beacons and Rams since a 9-0 Beacons win on Sept. 2, 2017.
UP NEXT:
The Beacons will open Little East Conference play at WestConn tomorrow (Sept. 12) with first serve set for 1 p.m.
