BABSON PARK, MA (April 4, 2026) – UMass Boston Baseball (12-9, 3-1 Little East Conference) split a nonconference doubleheader at Babson on Saturday (April 4) from Govoni Field, taking Game 1 in dominant fashion behind a near-complete game from Cameron Fisher (Canton, Conn.) before dropping the nightcap 3-5.
How it Happened:
UMass Boston's offense and pitching combined for one of its most complete performances of the season in Game 1, as Fisher (3-0) was nearly untouchable over eight innings, holding Babson to just one hit and one run while striking out six on only 96 pitches. The offense backed him with 18 hits and took full advantage of four Babson errors in the 11-1 final.
The Beacons got on the board quickly, with Elliot Miles (Portsmouth, N.H.) tripling to center in the first and scoring on a Brandon Gaer (Rocky Hill, Conn.) RBI single. UMass Boston added two more in the second on a Miles two-RBI single, and extended the lead to 5-0 in the fourth on another Miles two-RBI single to right center. Miles was relentless throughout, finishing 4-for-6 with five RBI on the day. Breon Parker Jr. (Springfield, Mass.) was equally impressive, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and a two-RBI double in the eighth. The Beacons tacked on three more in the ninth on RBI singles from Nick Farnacci (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Dylan Agvent (Orange, Conn.), with Alex Meesig (Nashua, NH) closing out the final inning in relief.
Game 2 saw the Beacons jump ahead early again, as Agvent singled through the right side in the second inning to score Max Garner (Arlington, Mass.) and Ryan Slack (Derby, Conn.), staking UMass Boston to a 2-0 lead. Babson starter Connor Doan settled in after the second frame and held the Beacons at bay the rest of the way, while the Beavers rallied for two runs in the fourth, and pulled away in the fifth, capping a three-run inning and pushing the lead to 5-2. The Beacons threatened in the ninth, loading the bases after a Miles RBI double cut the deficit to 5-3, but could not complete the comeback.
By the Numbers:
- UMass Boston moves to 12-9 overall after the split.
- Miles finished Game 1 with four hits and five RBI, another efficient offensive performance this season.
- Fisher's eight-inning, one-hit outing was one of the finest individual pitching performances of the Beacons' season.
- Agvent drove in two runs and drew two walks to pace the offense in Game 2.
- Garner and Slack each recorded two hits in the nightcap.
- UMass Boston used four pitchers in Game 2.
