Baseball Drops Home Contest to Endicott

BOSTON, Mass. (April 22, 2026) – UMass Boston Baseball (17-16, 5-6 Little East Conference) suffered a 13-2 setback against Endicott at Monan Park. Despite three-hit days from both Elliot Miles (Portsmouth, N.H.) and Wes Sturrup (Rochester, N.Y.), UMass Boston was unable to keep pace as Endicott capitalized on extra opportunities and a late grand slam to pull away.

How it Happened:

After both teams were held off the scoreboard through two innings, Endicott grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third on an RBI single and a passed ball. UMass Boston responded in the bottom half when Ryan Slack (Derby, Conn.) doubled down the right-field line to plate Brandon Gaer (Rocky Hill, Conn.), cutting the deficit to 2-1. The Gulls added single runs in the fourth and fifth, including a solo home run by Kyle Grabowski, to push the lead to 4-1.

The turning point came in the sixth, as Endicott erupted for five runs—four of them unearned—against the Beacons' bullpen. The Gulls took advantage of miscues and timely doubles from TJ Liponis and Cade Bernardo, stretching the margin to 9-1. In the home half, Ben Sherry (Fall River, Mass.) crossed the plate on a groundout by Breon Parker Jr. (Springfield, Mass.), bringing the score to 9-2, but the Beacons could not mount a further rally.

Endicott put the game out of reach in the eighth with a grand slam by Brenden Walsh, making it 13-2. UMass Boston used six pitchers in total, with only brief scoreless stretches from relievers Kyle McLaughlin (Auburn, Mass.) and Ben Cherry (Manchester, Conn.) to slow the Gulls' attack. The Beacons managed nine hits in the effort.

By the Numbers:

  • Elliot Miles (Portsmouth, N.H.) went 3-for-4 at shortstop, the seventh time he has recorded three hits or more in a single game this season.
  • Wes Sturrup (Rochester, N.Y.) reached base all four times, finishing 3-for-3 with a walk.
  • Ryan Slack (Derby, Conn.) drove in the Beacons' first run and recorded a multi-hit game (2-for-4).
  • UMass Boston used six pitchers, led by starter Ethan Nowak (Hampton Falls, N.H.), who allowed four runs (three earned) over five innings.
  • Kyle McLaughlin (Auburn, Mass.) delivered 1.1 scoreless, hitless innings in relief with two strikeouts.
  • Ben Cherry (Manchester, Conn.) finished the contest with a clean, scoreless ninth inning, striking out one.
  • The Beacons stranded 10 runners and went 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
