NEW LONDON, Conn. (April 15, 2026) – UMass Boston Baseball (16-12, 5-3 LEC) broke through in a hard-fought, low-scoring contest with a 4-3 victory over United States Coast Guard Academy on the road, snapping an 0-7 trend in games when scoring five or fewer runs.
How It Happened
UMass Boston trailed 1-0 after the first inning before mounting a rally in the top of the fourth. Nick Farnacci (Farmingdale, NY) led off with a hit-by-pitch and Elliot Miles (Portsmouth, NH) followed with a single to put runners on. Ryan Slack (Derby, Conn.) then delivered an RBI single to tie the game, and Chase Beloin (Avon, Conn.) followed with a run-scoring hit to right to put the Beacons ahead 2-1.
The offense stayed aggressive in the fifth. Breon Parker Jr. (Springfield, Mass.) doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Miles. Brandon Gaer (Rocky Hill, Conn.) then singled home Dylan Agvent (Orange, Conn.) to stretch the lead to 4-1.
Coast Guard responded with a solo home run in the fifth and manufactured a third run in the sixth, narrowing the margin to one. The Beacons' bullpen took over from there — Owen Ellsworth (Northborough, Mass.) threw 2.2 hitless innings to bridge the gap, and Ben Cherry (Manchester, Conn.) delivered a flawless ninth to lock down the win. UMass Boston's defense remained perfect, not committing an error the entire afternoon.
