Miner Powers Beacons to Doubleheader Split at UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. (April 14, 2026) – UMass Boston Softball (14-6, 3-3 Little East Conference) earned a hard-fought split in a conference doubleheader at UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, dropping the opener 4-2 before rallying for a 6-4 victory in Game 2 at the UMD Softball Field. Lauren Miner (Millbury, Mass.) carried the offense in the nightcap with a three-hit, three-RBI performance — including a go-ahead two-run home run — to lift the Beacons and keep pace in the Little East standings.

How It Happened

In Game One, UMass Boston drew first blood when Sofie Richland (Burlington, Vt.) stole third and scored on a throwing error in the top of the first. UMass Dartmouth answered immediately, tying the game on an RBI groundout in the bottom half. The Corsairs took the lead with a run in the third, but the Beacons pulled even in the fourth when Hayley Krockta (Taunton, Mass.) singled home Lauren Miner to make it 2-2. The Corsairs responded with two more in the bottom of the fourth — an RBI single and a run-scoring groundout — to go ahead 4-2. UMass Boston threatened late but left five runners on base, unable to overcome the deficit despite collecting eight hits, including four doubles from Richland, Miner, and Wentworth (Fitchburg, Mass.) — with Wentworth accounting for two of them.

Game Two was a different story. The Beacons jumped ahead quickly as Wentworth doubled home Richland in the first, then scored on a Miner single to go up 2-0. UMass Dartmouth answered with three runs in the third — aided by an error on a sacrifice bunt that opened the door — and took a 3-2 lead. The Beacons remained composed, and reclaimed the advantage in the fifth when Miner launched a two-run homer to left center, scoring Wentworth, and an aggressive steal by Mya Perron (Beverly, Mass.) allowed Mary Matthews (Wilsonville, Ore.) to score and push the lead to 5-3. Matthews added an RBI double in the seventh for insurance, and Lauryn Meade (Hanson, Mass.) went the distance in the circle, allowing just two earned runs on six hits with zero walks to seal the 6-4 win.

By the Numbers

  • UMass Boston out-hit UMass Dartmouth 8-6 in Game one.
  • Three Beacons combined for four doubles in the opener — Richland and Miner each had one, while Wentworth had two.
  • Miner was the star of Game 2: 3-for-3 with a walk, a two-run home run, and 3 RBI — reaching base all four times up. She has homered six times in her last 12 games, and leads the LEC in total homers this season.
  • Meade threw a complete game, allowing just 2 earned runs over 7 innings with zero walks.
  • The Beacons swiped three bases in the nightcap, with Perron accounting for two and her steal directly setting up an unearned run.

What's Next

UMass Boston returns home Thursday for a doubleheader against Bridgewater State, beginning at 3:30 p.m. at UMB Softball Field. The day will be celebrated as the Beacons' 'Morgan's Message Mental Health Awareness Game' and their first home games of the 2026 season.
