GORHAM, Maine (April 14, 2026) – UMass Boston Baseball (15-12, 5-3 Little East Conference) dropped a hard-fought road contest to the University of Southern Maine, 7-5, on Tuesday afternoon at the Ed Flaherty Field. Despite erasing a five-run deficit and tying the game in the seventh inning, the Beacons could not complete the comeback.
How it Happened
The Huskies jumped ahead quickly, plating three runs in the first inning on a two-run double by Drew Scialdone and an RBI single from Peter Keblinsky. The Huskies added two more in the third on a groundout RBI and an RBI single, pushing their lead to 5-0. UMass Boston starter Robert Wunsch (South Windsor, Conn.) kept the team competitive, pitching 5.1 innings and limiting further damage before the Beacons began their rally.
UMass Boston chipped away methodically. Elliot Miles (Portsmouth, N.H.) scored the first run in the fourth on an infield error, and Ben Sherry (Fall River, Mass.) brought home another in the sixth with a sacrifice fly. Then, in the top of the seventh, Miles delivered the defining blow — a three-run home run to left field that scored Dylan Agvent (Orange, Conn.) and Breon Parker Jr. (Springfield, Mass.), wiping out the entire deficit and knotting the game at 5-5.
Southern Maine responded in the bottom half, however, as Carter Higgins launched a two-run home run to center field to put the Huskies back ahead, 7-5. Connor Curtis (Mansfield, Mass.) (in relief) tossed a clean eighth inning, and the Beacons mounted a threat in the ninth — loading the bases with one out — but could not push across the tying run.
