Baseball Splits Doubleheader with SUNY Brockport, Rebounds for Game Two Win

BOSTON (March 7, 2026) – UMass Boston baseball (1-3) split a non-conference doubleheader against SUNY Brockport on Saturday afternoon at Monan Park, rebounding from a 15-6 loss in the game one with a decisive 8-2 victory in game two.

In the first game, the Beacons held a 3-2 lead through five innings, capped by an RBI single from Justin Gouveia (Dartmouth, Mass.). However, Brockport's offense erupted late, scoring four runs in the sixth inning and five in the seventh to take control. A three-run error in the seventh broke the game open for the Golden Eagles.

Despite the effort, Nick Farnacci (Farmingdale, N.Y) had a strong performance, reaching base four times with two hits and two walks while scoring three runs. Brandon Gaer (Rocky Hill, Conn.) contributed two hits and two RBIs.

The Beacons flipped the script in the nightcap, powered by a dominant start from sophomore pitcher Jonny Pagano (Attleboro, Mass.). Pagano earned the win by tossing six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and striking out five batters. The offense provided immediate support, scoring in each of the first three innings to build a 4-0 lead. Gaer started the scoring with a first-inning RBI double to center field. Elliot Miles (Portsmouth, N.H) put the game away in the eighth with a two-run home run, extending the lead to 8-0.

Across the doubleheader, Gaer led the Beacons' offense with four total hits and four RBIs. Miles finished the second game with two hits and three RBIs, including his homer. The UMass Boston pitching staff was impressive in the victory, combining for 10 strikeouts while holding Brockport scoreless for the first eight innings in game two.
