Boston, MA (March 5, 2026) — The UMass Boston Baseball team (0–1) scored 7 runs on 9 hits against the Mariners of Mitchell College (1-2) but fell short by one run in a close 9-inning matchup.

The Beacons used four pitchers in the effort, starting with junior Ethan Nowak, who went 3 innings. He was followed by Robert Wunsch, Hunter Ward, and Owen Ellsworth.
Mitchell struck first in the top of the 2nd with 2 runs on 3 hits, which was matched by the Beacons in the bottom of the 2nd with RBIs from Brandon Gaer (double) and Jayden Lafleur.
The Beacons kept it going as they tacked on a run in the bottom of the 3rd after Nick Farnacci lined one to left for a sac fly. Two runs came across in the 4th with a sac fly from Breon Parker and an RBI single from Justin Gouveia.
The Beacons added one more in the 5th when Elliot Miles scored on a fielder's choice.
The Mariners tacked on 6 more runs, and while the Beacons had a last-ditch effort in the 9th after an RBI groundout from Justin Gouveia, the Mariners held on to outlast the Beacons, 8–7.
