KEENE, N.H. (March 29, 2026) – UMass Boston Baseball (9-8, 3-1 Little East Conference) opened its road league slate by splitting a doubleheader at Keene State, taking Game 1 in a high-scoring 15-13 contest before dropping Game 2, 2-11. The split keeps the Beacons above .500 overall and firmly in the LEC race after the first weekend of conference play away from Monan Park.
How it Happened:
UMass Boston's offense set the tone in Game 1, erupting for 15 runs in one of the highest-scoring efforts of the season, the fourth time the Beacs have scored 15 or more in a single game.
The Beacons and the Owls played a wild, back-and-forth nine-inning contest that ended with UMB winning 15-13. The Owls jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second, then extended it to 5-1 through four innings before Elliot Miles (Portsmouth, N.H) launched a go-ahead three-run homer in the top of the fifth. The fifth inning produced five runs that gave the Beacons a 6-5 lead. Keene State responded with a massive six-run sixth to retake the lead at 11-7.
The Beacons clawed back to within one in the seventh on another Elliot Miles three-run homer — his third of the game — but Keene State added two more in the eighth to push the lead to 13-10.
In a dramatic ninth inning, UMass Boston erupted for five runs, driven by a Cole Bissaillon's (Great Barrington, Mass.) two-run double and a Ryan Slack (Derby, Conn.) sacrifice fly, to pull off the 15-13 comeback victory.
Game Two saw the tables turn, as Keene State jumped ahead early with a two-run first inning and seized control with a four-run third. Slack put UMass Boston on the board in the top of the second with an RBI single that scored Bissaillon, briefly cutting the deficit to 2-1. Miles plated the Beacons' second run in the eighth with a single that scored Breon Parker Jr. (Springfield, Mass.), but UMass Boston could not mount a comeback against a deep Keene State bullpen in game two.
By the Numbers:
• UMass Boston stands at 9-8 overall, 3-1 in the Little East Conference after the split.
• The 15 runs scored in Game One is the fourth time this season the Beacons have put up 15 or more, and the seventh game with ten or more.
• In Game 2, Ben Sherry (Fall River, Mass.) led the offense by going 2-for-4 with a double.
• Both Elliot Miles and Ryan Slack each tallied one RBI in Game 2.
• The Beacons used four pitchers in Game Two.
