Beacons Down Pilgrims

Boston, Mass. (February 7, 2026) — The UMass Boston men's ice hockey team earned another crucial LEC victory Saturday night at a lively Edward T. Barry Ice Rink, defeating New England College, 3–1.

The Beacons opened the scoring at 7:07 of the first period when Jazz Krivtsov found the back of the net, assisted by Jude Kurtas. UMass Boston doubled its lead early in the second period as Zander Lizotte finished a setup from Matthew Sullivan at the 5:17 mark.

Less than five minutes later, the Beacons capitalized on the power play, with Jack Mortson scoring off an assist from Krivtsov. The Pilgrims pulled one goal back before the end of the second period, but a scoreless third sealed the win for UMass Boston.

Despite being outshot 32–24, the Beacons were perfect on the penalty kill and held firm defensively, recording 11 blocked shots as a team. Jacob Kaminski and Mortson led the effort with two blocks each. Goaltender Alex Koenig stood tall between the pipes, stopping 31 shots, including 16 in a scoreless third period.

The faceoff battle was nearly even, with UMass Boston holding a slim 22–21 advantage. Mortson led the Beacons at the dot with nine wins.
