CASTLETON, Vt. (February 11, 2026) – UMass Boston men's basketball (15-8, 11-3 LEC) soared to a 100-85 victory over Vermont State University Castleton (5-17, 1-12 LEC) on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Glenbrook Gymnasium, powered by a career-high 31 points from Raphel Laurent (Peabody, Mass.) and a dominant double-double by Cameron Perkins (Danbury, Conn.).
The Beacons grabbed momentum from the opening tip, attacking the Spartans with efficient shooting and balanced offense. A first-half surge saw UMass Boston build a double-digit advantage, punctuated by a clutch three-pointer from Perkins as the halftime horn sounded to make it 46-33. Coming out of the break, Laurent set the tone with an early three, extending the lead to 18 and establishing the Beacons' rhythm in the second half.
VTSU Castleton attempted to narrow the gap behind strong play from Will Radcliff and a hot-shooting Jackson Doyle, but the Beacons' response was swift and collective. Timely buckets from Davon Sanders (Mansfield, Mass.) and continued defensive pressure kept the Spartans at bay. In the closing minutes, Sanders drove for a layup to hit the century mark, sealing a statement win in conference play.
UMass Boston led for more than 36 minutes, never trailing after their early run. The Beacons converted 22 points off turnovers and dominated the paint with a 50-34 advantage. The offensive success stemmed from both efficient ball movement and relentless energy on the glass, with team leaders stepping up at pivotal moments.
Laurent's career-high 31 points came on 11-of-16 shooting, including five three-pointers, while adding five rebounds and two assists in 35 minutes. Perkins delivered a commanding double-double, finishing with 28 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and a block, and shot 9-of-18 from the floor. He also provided a steady presence at the free-throw line, going 7-for-8.
Davon Sanders contributed 21 points, four assists and four rebounds, shooting eight-of-11 and logging 39 minutes. Carson Meczywor (Adams, Mass.) added eight points, four assists and three steals. As a team, the Beacons shot 57.1 percent from the field and 47.8 percent from three-point range, with Laurent, Perkins and Sanders combining for 80 of the team's 100 points.
With their 11th conference victory of the season against the Spartans, UMass Boston set a new program record for conference wins in a single season, surpassing the 2005–06 team that won 10 games before capturing the program's first LEC Tournament title and earning its second NCAA Tournament appearance.
