NEWTON, Mass. (Oct. 3, 2026) --- The UMass Boston Beacons field hockey team (0-10, 0-1 LEC) battled until the final seconds, but dropped a 4-1 decision to the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs (3-7, 2-1 LEC) in the program's first ever Little East Conference game on Saturday at the Charles River Campus of UMass Amherst in Newton.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The two teams battled through an even first quarter before the Corsairs struck with 1:19 remaining for an early 1-0 lead. Seconds later,
Molly Fote (Houston, Texas) registered a defensive save to keep it a one-goal game for the time being. UMass Dartmouth added a goal in the second period, which made it a 2-0 game at halftime.
In the early stages of the third quarter, the Beacons took advantage of a penalty corner opportunity and a shot by
Alexis D'Angelo (Monroe, Conn.) was cleared off the goal mouth before
Campbell Lambert (Rumford, R.I.) pounced on the rebound to trim the deficit to 2-1. Following the goal, the Corsairs added a goal from Emily Carr that stretched things back to a two-goal advantage.
First year goalie
Jenna Smolinski (East Aurora, N.Y.) turned in an impressive fourth quarter for UMass Boston with five saves.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
Lambert and
Delaney Williams (Duxbury, Mass.) tallied two shots apiece to lead the offensive efforts for the Beacons.
Smolinski (seven saves) and
Elizabeth Crowley (Medfield, Mass.) who made one save each saw 30 minutes of action in the cage.
Amelia Keeler led UMass Dartmouth with two goals.
