Women's Soccer Notches Fourth Straight Shutout in 1-0 Victory over VTSU Castleton

CASTLETON, Vt. (Oct. 10, 2026) – Lorelai Leddy (West Greenwich, R.I.) scored in the sixth minute and the UMass Boston Beacons women's soccer team recorded a fourth consecutive shutout in a 1-0 victory over the Vermont State Castleton Spartans on Saturday at Dave Wolk Stadium.

The Beacons now sit at 5-4-3 (4-0-1 LEC), while the Spartans are 2-9 (0-5 LEC).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Goalie Janiya Morales Matier (North Easton, Mass.) denied an early Castleton shot in the third minute and the Beacons got on the board less than three minutes later. Daniella Celotto (Prospect, Conn.) crossed a ball in from the wing to Leddy who put it home from in front of the net for the 1-0 advantage. The Beacons would continue to threaten in the first half including consecutive shots from Devan Booth (Manchester, N.H.) and Cloe Kapetanakos (Weymouth, Mass.), but the score remained 1-0 at the break.

Booth's chance in the 49th minute was turned away by Spartans' goalie Grace Kallio as it remained a one-goal game. Morales Matier held strong in goal with two saves over the final 45 minutes and a chance from Kapetanakos rang off the crossbar in the 75th minute as UMass Boston was able to hold on for the 1-0 victory.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
Leddy has now scored in consecutive games, while Celotto notched her first assist of the season.

The Beacons have registered four consecutive shutouts and have not allowed a goal in 391:15 of play dating back to Sept. 22.

Head coach Amy Zombeck's team held a decisive 26-6 edge in shots behind five from Kapetanakos and four from Booth.

Morales Matier registered four saves in the contest and has now tallied six clean sheets on the year.

UMass Boston has won three consecutive one-goal games against the Spartans.

UP NEXT:
The Beacons will travel to Westfield State for a non-conference match on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.
