McFadden’s Power-Play Goal Lifts Beacons Over Vikings

Salem, Mass. (January 9, 2026) — The UMass Boston women's ice hockey team earned a non-conference road win Friday afternoon, defeating Salem State 1–0 on a power-play goal from Aisling McFadden in the second period.

McFadden netted her fourth goal of the season to break a scoreless tie, with Cassidy Morrison picking up her third assist of the year on the game-winner.

The opening period was a defensive battle, as the two teams combined for just ten shots on goal. UMass Boston found its rhythm after the first intermission, firing 18 shots in the second period and capitalizing on its first power-play opportunity of the game.

The Beacons continued to outshoot the Vikings throughout the contest, and the lone goal proved sufficient to secure the victory.

Ginny Curello made 12 saves to earn the shutout in net. Emily Hansen led the Beacons at the faceoff dot, winning 15 draws while dropping just two. Defensively, four Beacons recorded blocked shots—Shea Nolan, Mia Boyd, Morrison, and Hansen. UMass Boston successfully killed off both Salem State power plays to keep the hosts off the scoreboard.
