Boston, Mass. (January 6, 2026) — The UMass Boston women's ice hockey team hosted No. 11 Hamline University Tuesday afternoon at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink, falling 5–1 to the nationally ranked Pipers.
Hamline opened the scoring just under halfway through the first period on an unassisted goal by Ellie Newpower. The visitors doubled their lead late in the frame, adding a second goal with 38 seconds remaining.
The Beacons generated momentum in the second period, highlighted by a strong scoring chance from Mia Boyd that forced a save from Hamline goaltender Kendra Nordick. UMass Boston broke through shortly after, as Shayna Chin netted her second career goal—assisted by Kristen Briggs—to pull the Beacons within one. Hamline responded before the intermission, however, restoring its two-goal cushion on a goal by Ella Rothe with 22 seconds left in the period.
Despite the final score, Leah Bosch delivered a strong performance in net for UMass Boston, stopping 31 shots on the afternoon. At the faceoff dot, Jenna Fitzsimons led the Beacons, winning all 10 of her draws.
