BOSTON, Mass. (January 3, 2026) – Following a dominant 5–1 victory over Worcester State (5-5-3, 1-2-2 MASCAC), the UMass Boston men's ice hockey team (7-4, 2-2 LEC) secured the program's seventh Codfish Bowl Championship in the tournament's 60-year history. Junior Chris Repmann (Middletown, N.J.) was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after scoring twice in Friday's semifinal win over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and again in Saturday's championship, where he tied the game at 1–1.
The Lancers struck first with their lone goal of the contest. Cam Quigley stunned the crowd of more than 200 just 15 seconds into the opening shift, rifling a shot from deep along the right wing that beat the Beacons' defense and went bar-down for the early 1–0 advantage.
Repmann responded four minutes later, netting his third goal of the weekend to equalize the score as UMass Boston found its footing and began stringing together sustained offensive pressure.
The second period belonged entirely to the Beacons, who erupted for three goals to seize control of the game. Jack Mortson (Detroit, Mich.) added a short-handed tally, while Jude Kurtas (Hillsborough, N.J.) and Dylan Robbins (New York, N.Y.) scored at even strength to give UMass Boston a commanding 4–1 lead heading into the final period.
Kurtas capped the scoring with his second goal of the game on an empty-netter, sealing the championship and closing out a successful 2026 Codfish Bowl run.
Ten different Beacons recorded at least one point in the victory, with Kurtas leading the way with his fifth and sixth goals of the season. UMass Boston fired 48 shots on goal, paced by Kurtas and Mortson with six apiece, while holding the Lancers to 35 shots. First-year Rhett Kodsi (Boca Raton, Fla.) anchored the defensive effort with a team-high four blocked shots, and sophomore goaltender Connor McDonough (Mendham, N.J.) turned aside 34 shots in an impressive performance. Mortson won a team-high 13 of 25 faceoffs, while junior defenseman Chris Merryman (Peabody, Mass.) posted a game-best plus-three rating.
The Beacons return to Little East Conference play next week, traveling to Danbury, Conn., for a matchup with Western Connecticut State University on Friday, January 9 at 7:00 p.m.
