Beacons Fall to No. 10 Babson in Overtime

BOSTON, Mass. (Jan. 17, 2026) — The UMass Boston Beacons men's ice hockey team (10-5-0, 5-3-0 LEC) dropped a 5-4 overtime contest to No. 10 Babson College (12-2-2, 7-1-1 LEC) in Little East Conference action on Saturday at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink. 

Matthew Sullivan (Hingham, Mass.) opened the scoring for the Beacons halfway through the first period, on assists from Chris Repmann (Middletown, N.J.) and Chris Merryman (Peabody, Mass.), giving UMass Boston a 1-0 lead.  

Babson responded as Charlie Andriole scored halfway through the second period, off Evan Brown's assist, tying the game 1-1. Just 12 seconds later, Sean Senierpulled the Beavers ahead 2-1 on the assist from Mike Stevens.  

Steven Spetz (Oak Ridge, N.J.) quickly tied the game at 2-2 for the Beacons on the power play off assists from Repmann and Kyle Isenberg (Anaheim, Calif.)halfway through the frame. 

Ian Driscoll regained Babson's lead at 15:32, off assists from Ryan Murphy and CJ Beals, but the Beacons once again responded to tie the game 3-3, thanks to a goal by Jack Ford (Middletown, Del.), assisted by Dylan Robbins (New York, N.Y.) and Jacob Kaminski (Greenville, Mich.).  

Late in the third period, Jude Kurtas (Hillsborough, N.J.) found open ice and put the Beacons up 4-3 on an unassisted goal, but with 1:01 remaining, Egan Schmitt tied the game with the extra attacker on, to send the game to overtime.  

UMass Boston created chances in the overtime period, but were ultimately left scoreless in overtime, as Babson netted the game winner at the 4:10 mark.  

Despite the loss, Connor McDonough (Mendham, N.J.) made 34 saves in net.

The Beacons will host the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs in a Little East Conference matchup on Friday, Jan. 23 at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
