BOSTON, Mass. (January 16, 2026) — The UMass Boston men's ice hockey(10-4-0, 5-2-0 LEC) team showcased its resilience Friday night at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink, earning a hard-fought 4–3 victory over the University of Southern Maine (7-7-1, 5-2-1 LEC) in a fast-paced Little East Conference showdown.
The Beacons came out firing and were rewarded almost immediately, as Jazz Krivtsov (Santa Clarita, Calif.) opened the scoring just 28 seconds into the game to give UMass Boston an early spark. Southern Maine responded with sustained pressure and multiple power-play opportunities throughout the opening period, but the Beacons' penalty kill and steady play from goaltender Alex Koenig (Manhattan, Calif.) kept the Huskies off the board and preserved the 1–0 edge after one.
Southern Maine found the equalizer early in the second period, striking just over three minutes in to tie the game. UMass Boston answered quickly, however, as Colin Richard (Foxborough, Mass.) finished a feed from Jakob Teply (Stamford, Conn.) to regain the lead. Momentum stayed with the Beacons when Krivtsov buried his second goal of the night moments later, this time off an assist from junior defenseman Chris Merryman (Peabody, Mass.). The Huskies trimmed the deficit late in the period on a breakaway goal from Jordan Bezio, sending UMass Boston into the second intermission with a 3–2 advantage.
The Huskies struck again early in the third, converting on the power play just 34 seconds in to level the score and set the stage for a dramatic finish. Both teams traded chances over the next several minutes, but neither could break through until first-year forward Jake Lindstrom (Denver, Colo.) played the hero. With 2:26 remaining, Lindstrom ripped home the game-winning goal from the left wing off a feed from Tyler Drummond (Baldwin, NY), lifting the Beacons to their fourth goal of the night.
Southern Maine pulled its goaltender in the final minute and pressed with the extra attacker, but UMass Boston's defense stood firm, sealing the 4–3 home victory.
Krivtsov led the Beacons with two goals, while Richard and Lindstrom added one apiece. Five different UMB skaters recorded assists, highlighted by Drummond's third, Jack Mortson's (Detroit, Mich.) fourth, and Jude Kurtas' (Hillsborough, NJ.) team-leading ninth of the season. Koenig finished with 33 saves, posting a .917 save percentage in the win.
UMass Boston returns to action Saturday afternoon at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink, hosting USCHO No. 10 Babson College at 4:00 p.m.
