Beacons Take Down Raiders in Nashua

Nashua, NH (Sep. 24, 2025) — The UMass Boston Beacons volleyball team extended their winning streak to four matches with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over the Rivier University Raiders on Wednesday night.

Rivier opened the match strong, holding a narrow lead through much of the first set. A kill by Lydia Brakefield gave the Raiders their largest advantage at 19-15. However, the Beacons responded with a four-point run to tie the set at 19, then added another four-point streak—highlighted by back-to-back kills from Lauren Westlund—to take a 24-22 lead. A Rivier service error ultimately sealed the set for UMass Boston, 25-23.

Set two proved to be just as competitive, requiring extra points to determine a winner. Rivier edged out the Beacons, 26-24, to level the match.

UMass Boston bounced back with authority in set three, dominating with a 25-12 win. The Beacons posted a blistering .360 hitting percentage in the set to take a 2-1 match lead.

The fourth and final set was a thriller, going to 28 points before the Beacons secured the match. UMass Boston recorded 13 kills and just two errors, while forcing Rivier into eight errors in the decisive frame.

Junior outside hitter Paige Coulson led all players with a career-high 21 kills, pushing her season total to 110. Josie Becker added 8 kills, while Lauren Westlund chipped in 7.

Audrey Cofield served up 4 aces, bringing her season total to 34, and led the team from the line. On defense, Westlundand Mary Matthews each recorded 18 digs. Coulson contributed on both ends with 12 digs and 2 blocks, finishing the night with a team-best 24.5 points.
